I was sitting at my mortgage company desk
I saw a report of the first crash on the internet. Airline crashes always interesed me, as my father made a career in the crisis management business. Depending on the airline, plane crashes usually meant Dad would be gone for a few weeks.
Once the terrorism rumors started, we all headed over to the temp agency next door, they had a TV. I walked in just in time to see a split screen, Peter Jennings on one side, a live cam on the 2nd tower, just as the 2nd plane hit. At this point, all of us realized this was no accident.
Dad would wind up spending months in NYC, he made it back to Milwaukee one weekend and I met him for drinks. I’d never seen him so exhausted. It was amazing to see what a month of 20-hour days, dealing with victims, families of victims and all the other ancillary chaos will do to a man.
